London Fashion Week February 18th 2012 Post #2: Spijkers en Spijkers AW 2012/13 Birds of Paradise showcase

Spijkers en Spijkers is a fashion label by identical twins Riet and Truus.  They introduced their AW 2012/13 collection at the Freemasons' Hall as part of the Vauxhall Fashion Scout showcase. I enjoyed the Vauxhall Fashion Scout shows last year and so looked forward to the shows this year. They showcase new talent and unlike Somerset House shows, there is a relaxed atmosphere. After sipping on the complimentary Vita Coco water, and having enjoyed a refresh of our makeup courtesy of The Body Shop, we headed down to the hall.


The show started, and it was clear that the 1960s were a huge inspiration for the twins, as well as some 1970s style patterns. Geometric designs, bright accessories, and bob haircuts to match, completed the 60s theme. I thought that all of the pieces were wearable for day to day activities or work, as well as a few glam pieces for the evening. Below are some pictures from the show; I apologise for the bad quality: what with a very bright light at shows and a lot of other objects for my camera to focus on, not all pictures are clear.

I really liked their black feather cape; a gorgeous accessory for the evening.

The colour combinations work really well together; surprisingly the bright red and yellow compliment the duller burgundy and brown fabulously.
